Acabei acompanhando boa parte da carreira do Guga quando ele esteve no auge. Lembro de ver a final de Roland Garros em 97 na extinta TV Manchete (gente, realmente estou ficando velho, né?) com aquela roupa chamativa em azul e amarela (ele explica a história dessa roupa no livro, viu?). Ali, Guga apareceu para o mundo, ganhando o seu 1º grande título e dando um salto gigantesco no ranking mundial.
E foi aí que comecei a admirá-lo pelo seu alto astral e jeito moleque. Guga é daquelas pessoas que parece que estão sempre de bem com a vida. Nada tira a sua felicidade. E olha que Guga perdeu o pai quando era criança e também viu o seu irmão que, coincidentemente, também tinha paralisia cerebral como eu, falecer na sua frente. Esses fatos fez Gustavo Kuerten valorizar bastante a sua família, outro detalhe que me chamou a atenção no livro. Impossível esquecer do Larri, tal forte era a parceria dos dois. Aliás, fiz propaganda da obra e até agora não disse o nome dela para vocês. É "Guga, Um Brasileiro", Editora Sextante. Na verdade, Guga deu um depoimento a Luís Colombini, que conseguiu manter o nível moleque de ser do tenista.
